DC NY road trip 2012: WW2 Memorial with Washington Monument in background

The World War 2 Memorial was our family's favorite, with its wreaths for each state encircling the central fountain with pomp. The Washington Monument and American flag in the background set up the circumstance for a family photo.

Alan's maternal grandfather--Ray Augsburger--was a military pilot, a navigator for his bombardment in WW2. This relief made us think of him, though we've never had the privilege of meeting him--yet.

This duck had the right idea: he found a way to stay cool while taking in the scenery and watching people ... from just the right distance. I could've sat and watched and thought a while longer too.
